ATLANTIS Policy Brief: Strengthening Cybersecurity in Healthcare

The ATLANTIS project has released its latest Policy Brief on Cybersecurity in Healthcare, drawing on lessons from the Large Scale Pilot (LSP#2) at Hygeia Hospital in Athens.

Healthcare remains a sector of high criticality but mid-level cybersecurity maturity, facing growing risks from disinformation, cyberattacks, and fragmented cross-border responses. Building on real-world scenarios tested in the pilot, the brief highlights three strategic priorities for decision-makers:

  1. Accelerate automated counter-narratives – using AI to quickly produce and disseminate trusted health information, with human oversight.
  2. Deliver in-channel corrections – ensuring authoritative messages reach patients directly through the same platforms and hospital-controlled systems where misinformation circulates.
  3. Strengthen cross-border coordination – enabling EU Member States and healthcare actors to share intelligence, act jointly, and deliver unified responses.

These recommendations aim to protect patient safety, safeguard trust in health institutions, and strengthen Europe’s resilience against future information-driven health crises.
